What are some causes of strange leg pain?

6 comments so far

Sometimes I'll get strange pain in my legs, and I'm not sure where it's coming from or why. It will extend from my lower back, through my hips, thighs, and calves, and to my ankles. It doesn't feel like muscle pain, and can sometimes ache for days. Could it be some kind of referred pain or trouble with nerve connections?

This sounds like a pinch nerve. I recommend you see a chiropractor and get an evaluation and treatment. Chiropractors are very good with back pain.

Diabetic neuropathy and Lyme disease both can cause these sorts of symptoms as could a lumbar vertebra impinging on a nerve in your lower back.

Write down the details about when it happens and where it extends.

This sounds like a nerve problem in your back. You should talk to a doctor. He can probably give you exercises or physical therapy to strengthen the back muscles… to stop this from happening.

Right now you have just warning pains… if they get worse and more frequent (or continuous), then you may need more drastic measures to repair the damage.

If you sometimes press the nerve, it is probably not damaged. But if you pinch the nerve and compress it, even after you release the pinching, it will take a few months for the nerve to heal and for the pain to stop…

So, go see a doctor, now…

It sounds more like a trapped or damaged nerve than peripheral neuropathy.
If you're not diabetic or a very heavy smoker or drinker it's unlikely to be a neuropathy.

    It sounds more like Sciatica
Sciatica is sometimes severe pain caused by general compression and/or irritation of one of five nerve roots that are branches of the sciatic nerve. The pain is felt in the lower back, buttock, and/or various parts of the leg and foot. In addition to pain, there may be numbness, muscular weakness, and difficulty in moving or controlling the leg. Typically, the symptoms are only felt on one side of the body.

It could be Lyme disease. My brother had Lyme disease and he felt that way, too. He also had swelling in his knee. Go see a doctor.
It also could be a pinched nerve in your vertebrae. Go see a doctor either way.
Now would be a good time.
