What is the strongest pain killer i can buy over the counter?

18 comments so far

I had a deep canal route filling (tooth) this morning, i have since tried nurofen and sulfadine 4 migrains.
Niether has touched the pain, the doctor was supposed to ring me but hasnt.
Any suggestions of what to buy at the night chemist?
I have 4 children and need to function a little better:O)
Im not a druggy, just in pain.

Co-codamol If you look it up on the web it will give you all the info you need. Also try a hot flannel held against your sore jaw

u dont need them. try the NEW ERA range from Boots or Holland & Barrats. Theres one called R i think and its for toothache. the painkillers will make u have other symptoms. have theses natural ones. also, try the CALC PHOS and CALC FLUR one. they are specially for bones and teeth. then make sure u applie the tablet to the tooth. it will dissolve. dont take in excess tho coz if you do not have enough water or fruit juices, it will cause heat in the body.

R is in the Combination remideis and the other 2 in the Tissue salts. they are miles better. i'd reccomend it to alot of people.

I doubt that you're going to find an 'over the counter' pain killer that will touch that sort of pain. The best person to advise you though will be the pharmacist at the night chemist - very knowledgeable and usually most helpful. Or try ringing the local health centre again and speaking to the duty doctor. Wishing you a good night's sleep!

Call the dentist immediately. He should have given you some pain medication before you left. He should have an answering service who will contact him and he can call a prescription in for you. Take care….

You need an opiate, Vicodin or Percodan. Vicodin is codeine and Tylenol mixed together. The Tylenol is more dangerous than the codeine. Doctors are reluctant to prescribe it because they don't want t get on a government list. Tell the doctor you have taken ten aspirin. He will get nervous about malpractice and give you what you need.

Co-codomol. You can get it in Boots or most pharmacies over the counter. It contains paracetomol and codeine, which is a slightly stronger painkiller than the mild analgesics like aspirin and para.

Ask the pharmacist there what is best, but you shouldn't really be in that much pain that you cannot function. Think about going to he Local emergency department at your hospital if it is that bad.

5 years ago I experimented with half a dozen painkillers- leftovers from previous ailments- and oldfashioned aspirin was definitely the best particularly when taken with caffein. It tends to irritate the stomach- but better than t-ache and you wont be taking them long. Report your doctor, he is useless.

i hate my dentist. i go in and get all my wisdom teeth removed and recieve a perscription of 6 vicoden wich cost 12 dollars out of pocket. im not one to complain much but i ran out of the scrip in 3 days and nothing hurt really. but a week later it was ungodly as the gums started to heal. so i asked for an appointment, they told me two months wait so i just told them i had pain can i get more of the pain killers, and they attacked me on the fone as if i were a criminal telliing me they dont hand out drugs like that and that im prob abusing so i told her to shove it up her ass and i poped about 8-10 200 mg ibuprofen every couple hours no joke it really hurt that bad.. and i dont even use painkillers but im kinda pissed at the way she attacked me like that. also to end my story my girlfriend went to the same dentist a bout a half year later to get hers pulled and received 2.. yes 2!!! scripts of percocet contains of 30 pills in a bottle. and on top of it her scripts were 2 dollars each, yea i dont go to that dentist anymore.

When looking at the instructions on pain killers you should remember there are massive margins between what they say is safe to take and what will actually do any harm.

I suffered from agonising toothach effecting my ear and the whole side of my face. Paramol and Syndol are the stongest painkillers in the UK (over the counter) and because these are paracetamol based you can also take Ibuprofen I was taking 3 Paramol, 1 Asprin and 3 400mg ibuprofen at a time which worked a treat the only problem is paramol contains cafein so I had trouble sleeping

I have has a few accidents and had pretty serious injuries and I still think toothach is the worst pain possible Its about time these pharasutical companies made a topical anaesthetic that you can use at home to numb your mouth
