Dee, no reason to be an asshole. Don’t be ignorant. Pain medication is made for, uh oh - you guessed it - pain management. Not so that asinine people like you can pass judgment on those who take it. Obviously, the poster didn’t consult us all about regularly popping percocets, they were inquiring as to what would be the best option if need be.

And you, my friend, are the idiot, seeing as ibuprofin, aspirin and tylenol are all blood thinners and make you bleed excessively. Good job on the erroneous advice.

Anyone who says taking a person who takes any kind of painkillers for a tattoo is an idiot, plain and simple. They are obviously ignorant and probably have never had a tattoo in their life. I’m on my 5th currently… Personally I have not taken any painkillers… My arms weren’t bad at all, very tolerable. I did 7 hours on my chest, the sternum was awful but again I didn’t take anything. I’m in the middle of a 7-8 hour piece covering my whole ribcage… Did one session with no painkillers - never again. Tattoo artist said afterwards a lot of guys who do ribs take stuff, he recommended percocet… If you’re getting a tattoo I would reccomend just dealing with the pain, unless its on the ribs, or neck. In which case… percocet.

I an starting a lower back tat, never had one before when she started I passed out twice from the pain…now I have a half done tat…please help with the pain management.. thanks

NO tattooist should EVER tattoo anyone under any kind of influence.

Any tattooist that I have every encountered/my own tattooist states, "Ibuprofen, Advil, or Tylenol are the best options."

Seriously… bite your tongue. It's not THAT bad, and you're not going to die.

Valume and Percocet are for L O S E R S.

p.s. - Pain medication doesn't help…nothing does, actually. It's all about your mindset.

The other posters r correct, any kind of pain med really does thin the blood, as does alcohol, which can lead to u bleeding extensively while ur getting it done. Not only would this be dangerous for u, but also hella messy for the tattooist and might cause complications with the job being done properly. Have u asked about any kind of numbing cream or gel? i used this when i had my lower back tat finished, i was unable to handle the pain the first time i went for the outline, so had the cream put on to get it finished. This cream doesnt completely numb the area, but does make it a little more bearable i think. You would have to pay extra for this and the one that i used, i had to go there an hour earlier to get it put on, wait till it started to work, and then it only lasted not even an hour before it started to wear off… once it did wear off tho, i did find it wasnt as bad as previously, as the pain came back gradually. I think u shud speak to ur tattooist, maybe something more suitable is available where u go, u might even be able to purchase the stuff from the chemist or something and take it to them, so u wouldnt have to pay as much. Like i said, worth looking into alternatives for sure. See how u go and all the best xx

Thought getting a tatoo was a sign of toughness……… I don't think they make medicine for that.

Can't tell ya what to use……. not a doctor.

Don't use the valium, be just a waste of good valium.

Don't use percocet. I was on percocet when I got mine and I'm glad I didn't take any for a day or two before. Percocet also has acetomenaphin which thins the blood. That's something you DON'T want when getting a tattoo because you bleed excessively.

generally, you're not supposed to use any pain medications while getting tattooed, but i'm sure there are exceptions that you should talk over with your tattoo artist. make sure you don't use aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen, as they are all blood thinners and will make you bleed too much.
