How do you train a dog to sleep in a different room of the house than they are used to?
5 comments so farMy dogs are used to sleeping in my parents bedroom. They have been for about 2 or three years. This summer I am taking the dogs to live with me in my new apartment and I want them to get used to sleeping with me. I have been trying to get them to sleep in my bed, at my parents house, but they stay with me. They just paw at the door until I let those jerks out and then they run to mommy. LAME I was curious if there was a tactic I could use to make them comfortable sleeping in my room?
***Anything else besides crating them?
if you train a dog properly, you will never need to crate them.
firstly, why are you giving in to them when they want to leave your room?
if they start scratching at the door to get out, yell at them, say NO and tell them to sit down!
letting them out is the worst thing you could do - it tells them that if they scratch or whine, you will do what they want.
I dont think its necessary though - when you move they simply wont have a choice - they will be out of old routines and in a new house…. they will sleep wherever they can.

When you move, they will probably automatically jump in your bed!

I would get a nice dog bed for them. Or if you want it on your bed, put the dog bed on your bed.

I have to agree with snap there ..Once you move they will jump on your bed. Don't force them to do it now, they are doing something they are use to, but once you move they will be fine. I am surprise your parents are letting you take the dogs lol.
