How many hours of sleep are necessary for a pregnant woman to feel rested?

16 comments so far

I am currently 6 months pregnant. I am having a hard time getting out of bed in the morning because I just feel exhausted. It doesn't seem to matter how well I sleep at night, I still feel tired in the morning. So, what I'd like to know is, how many hours of sleep are necessary to help me feel energized and refreshed in the morning?

24 hours! Just kidding. I am 7 months pregnant and I know exactly how you feel. I am so tired all of the time and it never seems to matter how much sleep I get. Normally, when I get to have a nap, I feel quite wonderful though! Maybe you should sleep your normal hours and then try to get a nap during the day.

It varies. Some woman feel refreshed all the time no matter the sleep and some could sleep the day away and still be tired. With my first pregnancy i was barely ever awake. I just couldn't keep my eyes open. I would sleep 14 hrs and still it wasn't enough. With my second I was lucky to sleep 4 hrs a night, i just couldn't sleep.

Does your doctor know how you are feeling? You should have higher energy levels in your second trimester. You might just need to drink more water and stay hydrated. I was told that even when pregnant, you need only 7-9 hours sleep.
    Good Luck and congratulations!

I can't remember with my 1st pregnancy, but this pregnancy I'm only 20 weeks now and I can pretty much take a nap anytime. How many hours are you getting now? I work full time and about once or twice a day I dream of just laying down somewhere and dozing off….
But they do say to sneak in a nap when you are tried through the day ~ that is if you are able to!

Girlfriend….as many as it takes for you to function. At this special time in your life, this is about you and your baby. Savor it and sleep……

24! Seriously though, I am pregnant with twins and I have been tired since conception! Today I actually had to take a break after making coffee so I could gather energy to brush my teeth!

With my first pregnancy I had a singleton though, and after the first trimester I felt pretty good and had lots of energy…

My guess is that every pregnancy and every woman is going to feel different and have different sleep needs. Good luck in your pregnancy!

Honey, there aren't enough hours in the day!

Honestly, they say that this unfortunate side effect of pregnancy readies you for all the sleepless nights to come once baby arrives. And they're right–at best, you can catch some naps here and there, but it will only get worse as your body becomes more full of baby. Ask your doc if maybe a half glass of wine is ok…or try warm milk, lavender linen spray, etc…..

I'm afraid you'll just have to get used to it. My boys are 4 and 6, nad my sleep still totally revolves aroung them.

i do have trouble getting to sleep of a night tho but i have gotten myself in a reuteen that i must be asleep by 10pm hehe.
my baby kicks a lot when i lay down tho so that doesnt help hehe
look id say just sleep as much as u need to, because after all.. us woman arent going to get much sleep after our bundle of joys have been delievered.

i heard 9 hours a sleep a night but every womans different throughout their pregnancy, im 13weeks prego and i try telling my bf that im tired and need my sleep and how important it is to get sleep. he asked me where i read that i need a lot of sleep. your using up more energy than usual to make the baby. just tell your bf that its important that you get your sleep, he may get crabby(like mine) but this way ul get your sleep and in the morning youll feel better and he wont be crabby, until tonight, haha

im 27 weeks pregnant and couldn’t seem to get enough sleep at night, I work full time as a waitress/Bartender so napping wasn’t an option for me.
So I started going to bed later, getting up earlier, and not letting myself sleep more then 9 hours a night, and after about 4 days I was feeling my energy come back again.
Thinking that maybe I was getting to much sleep? don’t really know why that has worked for me, but it sure did!!
