Is it good to sleep in a unfinished basement?
7 comments so farIve been sleeping in my unfinished basement because I don’t feel like sharing with a sibling and need my own space. My father feels I should sleep upstairs because he says its bad to sleep in the celler. Is this true?
It’s only bad if the cellar is damp. If it’s been properly damp proofed, it shouldn’t be a problem. But if it’s not, then you could make yourself pretty ill.

along with a greater risk of mold, there is also a greater risk of radon gas, the 2nd leading cause of lung cancer…Not to mention if there was a fire, can you get out?

I know people that have slept in unfinished basements. The basements were clean and there was no fear of Radon or any gas leaks. There was a problem with water on the heavy, heavy rain days. No mold was in the basements. There were no more bugs in the basement then there were in the main living areas. If you basement is clean there should not be a problem with sleeping down there. Maybe you can convince you father to finish the basement which would increase the value of the home and give you the extra space you are looking for,of course you would help him. This would be a great bonding moment.
