dealing with gall bladder issues, wanting advice on surgery & pain?
4 comments so farI was given a few days' worth of Percocet, but I don't like the side effects (namely, feeling "loopy"). I take the minimum dose (1 pill) a day and I'm still extremely loopy from the medication.
However, the pain from the gall bladder issues (the doc is still determining if it's gall stones or an inflamed gall bladder; the ultrasound techie would only tell me "areas of inflamation") is unbearable. Is there an OTC that I can take until Monday, when I can call my doc for the ultrasound results and learn if I need surgery or not?
Also, what is the lacroscopic surgery like? I was told that it's considered an out-patient and that I'd only miss 3 or 4 days of work; did this hold true for you? How much pain will I be in after the surgery? What pain medication were you prescribed to deal with the after-surgery pain? How long of a surgery is it? Would I be put completely under or just given general anesthesia?
I had mine out on a Wednesday, the next day was Thanksgiving and I went to my sister's and had dinner. On Friday, I went Christmas shopping, but my husband insisted on going with me to carry the packages (I'm glad he did because I got kind of tired). I went to work on Sunday. I felt so much better after it was out, that what little soreness I had was just a tiny inconvenience. I took like 2 pain pills after surgery (well, 1 right after, then one 6 hours later - my husband made me!) then Tylenol after that. Oh yeah, I had the surger at 8:10 a.m. and was home by 11:30 a.m. My husband said I was only in there about 40 minutes before the doctor came out. AND, I was supposed to be a "difficult case" because of the type of disease I had. I was completely knocked out. They gave me Loratab (which I hate).
Piece of cake! The worst part is that after the surgery (like for the rest of your life) you will find things that you can no longer eat. But still, it's great not to be in pain every day, so it's all good!

I am extremely sympathetic of your pain. My gallbladder pain was the worst of my life, and that was after giving birth twice. When you have an attack, the only thing I can recommend other than the pain pills is to turn the shower on as warm as you can stand it and just let it hit your back where you feel the most pain. This will relieve it a little until the pain meds kick in. They found that I had stones after an ultrasound and the surgery was a piece of cake. Four tiny little holes in the abdomen and no stitches! Recovery took about a day!
Good Luck to you!!!
