Promising cheap operations and no waiting time, India’s high tech hospitals attract plenty of Westerners. But what’s the real cost of these ‘medical tourists’?

    If you know, …
If you know, Dhirubhai Ambani! (Mukesh Ambani’s father) Founder of the Reliance industries. He was never rich before he strived to become one.
Steve Jobs, (Mr. Apple) used to eat food in HariKrishna Temple, when he had no job, look what he has become. BEcause he didn’t sit back and accused the rich of being unfair. He strived to become one himself.

    Mr. Beancube, from …
Mr. Beancube, from where I am, there the society is to an extent stratified! and it used to be worse before. US is accused to be biased but India was always biased. There is a cast name as ‘Shudras’(In modern day terms POOR). They were never treated equal, until now, when with the reforms, they have number of opportunities available same as that of any high caste Indian citizen!

    Mr. Beancube,

    My …
    Mr. Beancube,

My intention was never to mock poor people. The reality is what you have stated. And you have stated it very correctly.
But the modern day capitalism is not about making others poor it’s about making oneself rich. Today, we are lucky to be living in a world where opportunities remain available for all irrespective of who one is?

    And the reality is …
And the reality is the rich and the power are always connected. The poor? Is it their products? When someone stocks and cuts on supply, someone would have to steal and rub to survive. When they success, they of course should entertain about it a big deal. We are all living actually have to satisfy each other to some extend. Your mind has to evolve if you don’t want to live in fear and hatred.

It is so lucky we …
It is so lucky we have these moronic governments sides with us. We don’t take care of the poor, they can’t take care of the poor. ha:)

    The reason the poor …
The reason the poor have more kids is purely economics. For them it means one more person bringing in some money.Education in English is the only way to overcome poverty. The truth is the caste system will not allow it. An educated population is the solution. The internet is a cost effect method of imparting education to the masses. The corrupt politician is too busy making money for himself to really bother with Indias abject poverty. The recent food riots should be a wakeup call.

    Though a good …
Though a good documentary, people shd understand that population is the biggest problem. Govt.’s duty is to ensure fairness; and equal opportunities… It is definetely not taxpayer’s responsibility to take care of the numerous kids of the poor. I might sound too capitalistic but you need to really look at the exact problem,– namely, POPULATION esp. among poor

I used to be of …
I used to be of that view earlier but no longer. It pains to see that people who are really poor have on an avg. 4 kids/family. I dont understand wht they think…except using their kids as some resources. Govt. should implement strict population control measures.

    Lasly, I would like …
Lasly, I would like to remark that nobody should live like a parasite. Parasites are never liked and are hated everywhere. That’s the nature of humans and other living beings. Everybody should strive to live independently.

Independence provides self respect and better status in society.

‘Interdependence’ and not ‘Dependence’ is what one should look forward to.

One should look forward to helping other persons to achieve common and individual goals.

    In my opinion, …
In my opinion, everything revolves around money and power. The richer and the more powerful a country is the better it is served.

Had nigerians been richer and more powerful, they would have got better treatment than what they are getting now.

India, however, is evolving and after lying dormant for a long time, it is again making a mark internationally. Space, medicine, engineering, fashion ,films there is a long list where India is doing gr8.

  11. Posted by amiyashrivastava 29th September, 2008 at 3:21 am

    Govt. must ensure …
Govt. must ensure that all its people get equal opportunity irrespective of who they are.

What I hated the most was people are being treated on the basis of their race. That nigerian guy, for unknown reasons, was deprived of facilities that the British lady got.

One can get richer if (s)he wants to but one cannot change his race. I think every body should be treated at par.

I am an Indian and I sometimes think Indians act snobbishly.

    What I think is …
What I think is nobody can be blamed and each and every person has to work in tandem to get it going.

Everybody wants to earn and to live a better life. Dr. Reddy is primarily a business man and then a philanthropist so he is doing what he should. His act of favouring rich is thus justified.

Poor people must understand that to live a better life they will need more means to earn and therefore should seek ways to earn. Nobody can get rich simply by sitting at home.

    Michael Moore …
Michael Moore should’ve mentioned this in his movie SICKO. I’ve me Americans who’ve gone to India and Thailand for operations. A procedure that costs $80,000 in the USA can cost $15,000 in India.
Thailand has a hospital where they do top-rate sex changes. If they can do operations like that, they can do regular surgery too.

    The more telling …
The more telling information would be to learn how much Journeymen Pictures gave to that little boy’s father for his stomach surgery instead of just making a fine point of it for others and not themselves. Social medicine has failed in every place it has been tried, and it will always fail for the same reasons Dr. Reddy stated. There ain’t no such thing as a free lunch. The sooner understood the better for all. But now the Great America thinks they can improve on it. :D There ain’t no such thing

    The day the rich …
The day the rich can provide the same Quality of care to the poor as they provide to their own, would be the day The world would have become civilized!.

    If not for large …
If not for large private hospitals many expert doctors would not have returned to India from US, UK etc. India would have lost good doctors in Brain Drain. Regarding specialist doctors, expensive they may be, but better in India then lost in Brain Drain.

  18. Posted by dbca999 29th September, 2008 at 3:21 am

    Not right to fully …
Not right to fully blame Appollo only. If u don’t hav Appollo then even the rich & elite in India will occupy free beds of Public Hospitals. By moving the rich to Appolo & other private hospitals atleast u create more beds for needy. Also, earlier our rich used to go overseas for treatment, now they get in India itself. Good healthcare does cost. Besides even Public Healthcare doctors may not talk nice but definitely they handle a LOT more patients than any doctor in developed world

    Very interesting …
Very interesting documentary. It clearly shows the discrepancy that is growing rapidly in changing India between the private sector and the public one.

It is of course not a specific Indian problem but the contrast in India seems to me a stark one.

    They(journeyman …
They(journeyman pictures) exploit the poor in India conveniently forgetting the fact that these foreigners who come here suffer the same fate in their respective countries. Australian trash!!!!

    One more stupid …
One more stupid documentry by “Journeymanpictures”.. Highly manipulated to produce the end result that India may be ready to serve the world, but is it ready to serve India. idiots were trying to explain India through a Delhi environment as all of india lives in Delhi where migrant workers from neighboring poor states come.. O well, who give a rat. Appolo is a private hospital that tenders people at centain level of India. with growing India, such hospital will only increase to expand the base
