What prescription pain killer were you given to take home after your c section?
12 comments so farOr, were you given a pain killer to take home after a vaginal delivery?
Was it enough?
I was given Percocet and Ibuprofen to take home after my C-section. They only gave me 45 Percocet which was not nearly enough. My doctor had no problem giving me a new prescription for another 60 (not sure why I wasn’t given this many to start with) since I ran out in about 5 or 6 days and when I had my 2 week check-up, she asked if I needed more which I declined.
Have you ever developed a food allergy after eating it many times?
9 comments so farI've eaten grapefruit plenty of times throughout my 22 years.
A couple months ago, I ate a grapefruit for breakfast for the third time that week and all of a sudden broke out horribly. Went to the doctor and turns out I developed an allergy and had to get a shot in my butt.
This ever happened to anyone else?
That happened to my dad with kiwis. He used to eat them all the time, and then one day, his throat just swelled shut and had to go to the hospital.
What pain medicine works the best while getting a tatoo?
13 comments so farI am in the process of getting a full back piece tatoo, My last session was extreamly painfull because of scar tissue. I have a LOT of other tatyoo's and have never before had this problem with pain. I have Percocet and valume I'm trying to figure out witch one would work better to control the pain for the 4 to 5 hours of tattooing.
The other posters r correct, any kind of pain med really does thin the blood, as does alcohol, which can lead to u bleeding extensively while ur getting it done. Not only would this be dangerous for u, but also hella messy for the tattooist and might cause complications with the job being done properly. Have u asked about any kind of numbing cream or gel? i used this when i had my lower back tat finished, i was unable to handle the pain the first time i went for the outline, so had the cream put on to get it finished. This cream doesnt completely numb the area, but does make it a little more bearable i think. You would have to pay extra for this and the one that i used, i had to go there an hour earlier to get it put on, wait till it started to work, and then it only lasted not even an hour before it started to wear off… once it did wear off tho, i did find it wasnt as bad as previously, as the pain came back gradually. I think u shud speak to ur tattooist, maybe something more suitable is available where u go, u might even be able to purchase the stuff from the chemist or something and take it to them, so u wouldnt have to pay as much. Like i said, worth looking into alternatives for sure. See how u go and all the best

How do I go back to sleep when I woke up from my parents having sex?
15 comments so farI just got a rude awakening from my parents having some nasty time with each other in the other room.
This has happened a few times before but When I get jerked awake from the noises I find it hard to go back to sleep, if at all sleep the rest of the night.
Right now it is 12:36 am and I can't go back to sleep no matter how hard I try, my mind is still scarred for the moment, any remedies/tips?
Hey there, while it is completely natural for parents to have sex I know it can be rather disturbing for the fellows members of the household. I have a problem from being awoken by things, my sister across the hallway talks quite loudly in her sleep and it isn't of anything pleasant. So I went to Home Depot, or you could go to any hardware store and buy ear plugs. I don't mean those weird little things. The kind I use (I forget the brand name) have a blue rubber wire connecting to yellow plugs on each end. They basically fit to any ear size and silence the outside out and aren't painful in the least.
Though the kind I bought came with goggles, you may have to look for that minor set if they aren't singled out. But that worked for me, and I live in a small house with thin walls, haha.
If now, then a room swap is a decent choice, though it takes time and work. I don't know if you are as lazy as me so I can't really say how good of an idea that is. Try the ear plugs, sleeping with music doesn't help. It usually keeps the brain awake or wakes you up by certain beats and or the pitch of voices.
I hope all works out!
Pancreatitis, don’t quite fit into any causitive category, but a bit in some … Any GI’s out there?
2 comments so far6 weeks ago, I went to my PD with what I thought was severe heartburn. I went to pharm. and he suggested Pepcid. I took it, no luck in an hour (like he said). I called and asked PD how long Pepcid takes to take it away, she said an hour, I said it’s been 4 hours and I was in agony. Severe abdominal pain, some vomiting, low grade fever. I had what I thought was the flu for 3 days prior (no pain, just didn’t feel well, diarr and low grade fever. She said come in. She took a blood test … Highly elevated Amylase and Lipase, somewhat elevated ALT, AST. Had weekly blood tests since then, and it’s been going down. Nearly normal Amylase, still 3 times normal Lipase (which is much lower than it was… nearly 3000).
I read the following on internet as far as causes: 1) Alcoholism: “Alcohol is the leading culprit. Usually, it takes several years of heavy drinking — such as a 12-pack of beer of every day.” I drink, but not more than 3-4 drinks per night, 3-4 nights per week (if that!) however, I had a life altering even a few weeks before attack and did drink a bit more (nightly, maybe 4 drinks), but no ‘binge drinking’. Rarely drunk more than 4 times in the last year, no hangovers. 2) Gallstones: never had a symptom. 3) heridedary: nope, nobody. 4) Meds: rare cases of Lamictal and Ativan have been reported “after market, and reported on ‘compassionate please’ cases. I am on both. (BTW, Lamictal was raised from 150 mg to 200 mg 1 wk before attack, and due to stress, went from 1 ativan per day to 2-3). 5) no traumas.
The pain was severe (I have little tolerance for pain), but not enough that I felt ER was necessary. Nor did she. I was still walking around and doing what shopping I had to do, etc. OTC painkillers helped.
Background: 48 yrs old, F, somewhat healthy diet. I feel fine now. Having another blood test Monday. Also have history of ovarian problems…. recently, cysts, fibroids. Any known relation? Any herbal/alternative cures or remedies? Is this permanent? She says never another drink of alcohol, not even cough syrup. Is that true? Even socially, a couple here and there? Due to my two year history of drugs (antidepressants, Lamictal, Xanax, Ativan … all prescribed by Dr’s), I have also taken Milk Thistle and Alpha Lipoic Acid to counteract the med’s effect on liver.
Just can’t find enough general information on this on the internet. Just doom, gloom, not so great mortality rates, and a future of horror to live with … kidney dialysis, heart failure, liver failure, extreme pain, narcotic addiction, surgeries.
Please advise… Thank you and God bless.
Yes, she is absolutely correct. You were drinking a lot of alcohol before your onset of acute pancreatitis. It may not seem like a lot, but you really WERE drinking enough to cause pancreatitis. If you continue to drink and you have recurring episodes of it, you could end up with chronic pancreatitis. Anyway, you were very lucky as it seems like you didnt have a severe case of it. But unfortunately, acute pancreatitis can get very dangerous if you have a bad enough case of it (I interviewed a patient the other day who had it and was just getting discharged from the hospital 2 months later). So yes, stay completely away from any alcohol - its not worth the risk.
How much pain relief can I expect from cortizone injections into a bulging disk?
3 comments so farDoes anyone have a bulging disk which caused a lot of pain? If so, did you get cortizone injections and if you did how much relief from pain did you get? What has been the best pain relief?
I once had a cortisone shot in my wrist. It was very painful. I have since discovered a drug free non-invasive way to reduce inflammation - I use this product for my back and my knees. Its called actipatch. Works like a charm, easy to use and a good value since it lasts so long.
How much pain does a person who is being beheaded has to endure?
7 comments so farPlease do not take offense with my question. I am asking this only to know the scientific and medical point of view. I sincerely wish the pain these innocent hostage victims have to suffer is only very minimal, compared to other painful lingering deaths. I am very sorry if my question hurts any of you.
i guess it depends on the method of beheading
Is it good to sleep in a unfinished basement?
7 comments so farIve been sleeping in my unfinished basement because I don’t feel like sharing with a sibling and need my own space. My father feels I should sleep upstairs because he says its bad to sleep in the celler. Is this true?
It’s only bad if the cellar is damp. If it’s been properly damp proofed, it shouldn’t be a problem. But if it’s not, then you could make yourself pretty ill.
Are there any safe and effective natural alternatives to allergy medications?
6 comments so farMy wife suffers from asthma which seems to be triggered mostly by allergies like dust, animals, ragweed, pollen etc. She is currently taking Loratadine (an antihistamine) which helps to keep her allergies/asthma in control. The problem- I don’t trust chemicals. I don’t think they’re safe. (sorry Big Pharma). So my question is, are there any safe and effective natural alternatives to allergy medications such as Loratadine?
Only ones that don’t work!
If they worked, they’d be available from those evil giants, “Big Pharma”!
It’s odd that you don’t “trust chemicals”, since YOU are composed entirely of them!
(Your wife’s allergies, BTW, are a likely sign that her childhood home was kept to fussily clean, and that as an infant she was consequently unable to build up her natural defenses…)
Any info on Palisade, Colorado would be much appreciated.?
3 comments so farI am considering moving to Palisade,CO.
I am a young hardworker (general labor and culinary background). I am interested in using my skills on a farm, ranch, or bed and breakfast (I also have experience in inn reservations and other front desk work). I have am NOT afraid to work, I love to cook, bake and be outdoors.
I will need room and board provided as well as an TBD salary. However, I would be of minimum bother with a quiet, friendly dispostion. Can do well with others as I come from a traditional, bigger than average, family of good reputation.
I will not be moving immediately as I am currently employed and finishing my A.A.S. Degree in Business and Marketing locally. However, I am wishing to collect ANY info that anyone can provide.
I am very anxious for a response.
Please email me at rb0202904@otc.edu
Thanks so much for your time.
You should consider the Western slope. Natural gas boom going on there and oil and gas companies are desperate, paying very well for reliable workers. Good Luck!

Is it possible to eliminate sleep through evolution?
4 comments so farI always think about how much more efficient humans could be if we didn’t have to sleep. My understanding is that sleep is very important. Aside from feeling tired by the lack of sleep, I’ve also heard that you can die from not sleeping. What exactly happens when you sleep that effects your body? I always viewed sleep as more of a mental thing. Is sleep just one of those things that will always be necessary, like eating?
I know that I can't stop it. But evolution takes thousands of years. I'm just asking if it is theoretically possible.
It depends on how evolution proceeds. If we’re sleeping fewer hours because of jobs and other responsibilities keeping us awake longer than it should perhaps our brains will evolve to require less sleep in the future, but the downside would probably mean that we’d probably become stupider because sleep helps brain function. It’s the brain’s way of recharging itself.
Another possibility is that we could evolve to need more sleep simple because our brains are being used to store more information than our ancestors. If you go back 200 years in time people didn’t know what car were, or DVD players, or computers, or DNA, or a million other things we know about now so our brains are used to store more information than they were in the past so we could evolve to need more sleep because of that.
Only time will tell and none of us are likely to be alive when the changes happen.
One evolutionary change I predict is that at some point in time every human on earth will be the same race due to interracial relationships which were less likely thousands of years ago. With the internet we’re able to meet people from all over the world and even have romantic relationships with them. There are literally hundreds of intercontinental couples meeting online and getting married. Race is becoming less and less important in relationships and more and more people are getting involved with people outside of their own race… so I bet some day race will be eradicated… so will religion science advances.
How do you make your baby sleep when she cries uncontrollably?
10 comments so farMy 1 month old daughter sometimes cries uncontrollably. It is really scary. After feeding I burp her once (hope that is sufficient and right way). I try to make her sleep by putting her in my lap, put her in my hands like cradle, but she will not like that. She will get up in the sleep and start crying again.
How would you make your babies sleep fast and sound? What burping method worked best for your baby at 1 month-2 month age?
Babies develop routines at their own time so dont force it and just enjoy being a new parent..Its not easy so just live through it coz next year this time, you’ll be missing those moments. By 2 months or so baby should start sleeping. If you burp baby once and you dont feel any gas movements then the baby is fine. When the baby is gasy you can tell..and usually they start hicupping if you dont burp them good but dont frce those burps either coz sometimes babies just dont burp no matter what you do. Also remember that babies are supposed to cry
How many hours of sleep a day should an adult be getting?
13 comments so farI am 20 years old and in college, and I usually get around 5 hours of sleep a night because I am really busy during the day. How much sleep should a person get and not reduce life expectancy? I want good grades in school, but not at the expense of years of my life. I get conflicting answers: some people say 6-9, 6-8, 7-9, and 7-8 hours of sleep a night. So which is the right answer on how much sleep should a person who loves their life should get?
7 or 8 hours
What are the side effects of sleep deprivation? How much sleep should i have?
10 comments so farI am 22, i work 40 hours a week, and i’m also taking 3 courses this semester. I have about 4-6 hours of asleep every night. Will i be developing any sleeping disorders if i have this much sleep a night. How many hours of sleep should i get for my age? What is healthy?
You should get a good 6-8 hours, however the quality of sleep is as important as how long.
Sometimes, when a person is under alot of stress, sleep can become irregular.
I had problems falling asleep, and was precscribed medication, and then I had heard about Stemulite, which is all natural health supplement. There is a daytime and nighttime formula that is a binary formula to help maximize the benefits.
In the nighttime formula, is an all natural ingredient by the name of melatonin, which helps you fall asleep deeply. This enables REM sleep, where a person can wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on a new day.
I decided to just take straight melatonin, and it never worked as well as the Stemulite did, and that is in part of the manufacturing of Stemulite, which was made by a doctor.

What is causing a pain in the chest when my 12yr son swallows?
9 comments so farMy 12 yr old son started a “conditioning class” with weights and such. From the day he started, he began complaining about a pain in his chest. It seems like it was a pulled/strained muscle at first. But he says it doesn’t hurt when I push on his chest. He says it hurts just when he swallows. The pain (kinda burning he says) starts just below his breast bone then travels up. Could this be acid reflux?
I’m thinking of calling the doctor or am I over reacting?
If you call me I’ll tell you than no, you are not over-reacting. That sort of pain is not unusual in someone who’s just started a program of weight conditioning, but your son’s seems different in a couple of respects. I would ask you to bring him to the clinic for a closer look. Most likely it’s nothing serious, but there are some potentially serious possibilities. I’d say call your physician - better safe than sorry - ’cause no matter how good we are, we can’t always fix sorry.
Medtronic Initiates Voluntary Field Actions for Selected Heparin-Coated Products Used During Cardiopulmonary Bypass
No commentsFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — MINNEAPOLIS – May 7, 2008 – Medtronic, Inc. today announced that it is initiating a voluntary and precautionary recall of selected products featuring the Carmeda BioActive surface. The affected devices are disposable products used during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) for heart surgeries. Affected products include blood oxygenators, reservoirs, pumps, cannulae, and tubing packs. This action is being taken subsequent to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s April 8, 2008 recommendation to device manufacturers that heparin supplies be checked with newly-developed tests, and that affected products be evaluated for possible field corrective action.
Limited lots of Carmeda-coated products were manufactured with heparin found to have been contaminated with oversulfated chondroitin sulfate (OSCS). The patient risk associated with the presence of OSCS in heparin-coated medical devices is not known at this time. However, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has received reports of serious injury and death in patients who have been administered injectable heparin products containing high levels of OSCS….
What are the laws regarding prescription pain meds(including methadone)when driving class A trucks?
3 comments so farI am planning on getting my class A license and a long haul truck driving job. I have had to take pain meds in the past for back pain. Is it legal to take prescription pain meds while driving the big rigs. The pain meds that work for me are oxycodone(percacet) or methadone.
I know that it is against the law to use methadone and drive a truck but I am not sure about the other meds. I would call Human Resources and ask what the policy is regarding prescription medications and driving.
Why are there so many questions in the ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE category about prescription and otc drugs?
5 comments so farThis is a section of alternatives to the normal accepted way of doing things. Go learn how to toxify your body in the general healthcare section.
People tend to miss out the “ALTERNATIVE” written before medicine and think that this section has to do with prescription medicine or over-the-counter medicine.
I believe that there should be a moderator for the section and non-related questions be moved to the correct section. Additionally there should be a section for homeopathy alone and non-believers or haters be blocked from this section.
